Resources for the media

Media Enquiries

Media Resources

Media releases about parole decisions generally always reference the conditions with  which the inmate must comply.

These documents are provided to assist with media reporting of parole decisions:

All offenders in NSW, whether on court or SPA ordered parole, must comply with Standard Conditions (PDF, 17.7 KB) of Parole 1-11.

The State Parole Authority may also impose any number of Additional Parole Conditions such as electronic monitoring.

For every parole decision, the Authority records the reasons relied upon for granting parole or for refusing parole. The reasons given depend on the circumstances of the individual case.

Media Education

The SPA has a media education program that allows journalists to attend briefings conducted with the SPA’s Director and Chair to understand its role and functions.

These briefings are conducted for learning purposes, under Chatham House rules, and are strictly not for reporting.

If you are a journalist who is interested in this professional development, please contact the Media officer.

Media attendance at review hearings

Review hearings are open to the public and media and are held in the State Parole Authority Courtroom located at:

Court 1A Level 1
Sydney West Trial Courts Building
6 George Street, Parramatta

Is filming of hearings permitted for news purposes?

Audio and video recording, as well as photography, of review hearings is prohibited.

For matters of high public interest, the Parole Authority may allow a pool camera to film a hearing, however any request must be made in writing and approved by the Director.

For all filming requests please contact the Media Officer.
